Vice President of Advocacy

Sydney Jacobson serves on the MOTA board as vice president of advocacy. Sydney is deeply passionate about ensuring that occupational therapists' voices are heard by creating a seat at the table for us. She has a strong interest in improving systems and processes that support therapists, our clients,  their families, and our clients' other team members. She has frequently served as a neutral and solution-focused presence in challenging environments. She is driven by a desire to move beyond simply observing systemic issues to actively contributing to meaningful, lasting change. Sydney brings a unique perspective, a calm demeanor in times of conflict, and a genuine eagerness to learn and lead through practical, action-oriented solutions.

Government Affairs Committee Chair

 

Kallie Moy is the Government Affairs Committee Chair. She has been an occupational therapist since 2021, graduating from Pacific University in Oregon with her OTD, and is currently working in acute care. She has a strong belief in advocacy and the need to advocate for the occupational therapy profession in Minnesota. She became involved with MOTA's Government Affairs Committee as a student completing her capstone project which was focused on identifying how to include occupational therapy in Minnesota's Adult Mental Health Act. She continues to advocate for ways to increase access to occupational therapy services for individuals experiencing mental health challenges. 

Special thanks to Karen Sames as the previous Chair for the Government Affairs Committee, all she has done to build and advocate for occupational therapy in Minnesota, and her continued guidance on all things legislative.  

Reimbursement Chair

Andrea Janike MA, OTR/L, BCP is currently working in an outpatient pediatric setting, where she specializes in feeding as well as bowel and bladder dysfunction for children and adolescents. She is passionate about synthesizing knowledge and experience from both specialty areas as well as advocating on behalf of the profession in the area of reimbursement. She has actively served as a government affairs committee member for 3+ years.

Meet MOTA's Lobbyist

Cory Bennett has served as the MOTA lobbyist for over a decade. He is president and owner of Bennett Government Consulting, a Minnesota government affairs consulting firm.  He has over 20 years of legislative experience and extensive knowledge of the committee, legislative and agency rule making processes.  Prior to founding his own government relations firm, he was a lobbyist at Capitol Hill Associates and served as Committee Administrator for the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and Agriculture and Rural Development Committee.  Cory has considerable expertise in issues related to agriculture, health care, natural resources, environment and state government finance and tax issues.
