What is required for a SIG?

Each SIG is required to meet at least four times per year. Meetings should last 30–60 minutes and provide opportunities for networking, discussion, and professional development within the area of focus.

What is required of a SIG Facilitator?

The SIG Facilitator is responsible for:

  • Managing the Zoom account for meetings.
  • Coordinating and scheduling meeting dates and agendas.
  • Managing continuing education (CE) credit when applicable.
  • Communicating with MOTA regarding updates, attendance, and CE documentation.

What are the benefits of being a SIG Facilitator?

SIG Facilitators receive a discount on MOTA Annual Conference admission as recognition for their leadership and contribution.

How do I submit interest in joining or starting a SIG?

To express interest, please complete the form on the SIG page. 
Even if you are not interested in serving as a facilitator, MOTA can assist with identifying a facilitator to support your group.

Is mentorship available if I am interested in becoming a facilitator?

Yes. MOTA offers mentorship and guidance for individuals interested in becoming SIG Facilitators.

Do I have to be a MOTA member to participate in a SIG?

No, you do not have to be a MOTA member to attend or participate in a SIG.
However, you must be a MOTA member to serve as a SIG Facilitator.

Do participants receive CE credit for attending SIG meetings?

While not all SIGs offer CE credit, there is an opportunity to submit meetings for CE approval.
To request CE credit, please complete the CE Credit Form found under the Professional Development section.

  • MOTA members receive CE credit at no cost.
  • Non-members may receive CE credit for a fee.

Who can attend SIG meetings?

SIG meetings are open to occupational therapy practitioners, students, and related professionals who are interested in the topic area.

Can SIG meetings be held in person or hybrid?

Yes. While most SIGs meet virtually for accessibility, in-person or hybrid formats are welcome as long as they meet MOTA’s documentation and attendance requirements.

Can a SIG have co-facilitators?

Yes. SIGs may have co-facilitators who share responsibilities such as scheduling, communication, and CE management. This structure can also serve as a mentorship model for new leaders.

What support does MOTA provide to SIG Facilitators?

MOTA provides administrative support, access to Zoom, CE documentation guidance, and mentorship for new facilitators.

What happens if a facilitator can no longer continue their role?

If a facilitator steps down, MOTA will work with current group members to identify and onboard a new facilitator to ensure continuity.

Can students participate in SIGs?

Yes! Students are encouraged to attend SIG meetings to learn from practicing clinicians and explore areas of professional interest.

Can a SIG host speakers or educational events?

Yes. SIGs are encouraged to invite guest speakers or host educational sessions. Facilitators should coordinate with MOTA to ensure CE requirements are met.
